Merchant & Mills: The TN31 Parka Sewing Pattern UK 6-18
Merchant & Mills: The TN31 Parka Sewing Pattern UK 6-18
TN31 is a relaxed and versatile interpretation of the classic fishtail parka. Lined or unlined it can work for all seasons. It has side pockets, front welt pockets, a back vent and optional drawstring waist.
All seam allowances are 1.5 cm unless otherwise stated. Skill level: Experienced.
Suggested fabrics: Dry oilskin, oilskin (lined version only), tweed, woollens, cotton drill, cotton canvas, waterproofed cottons and linens. Using something like oilskin will ensure it keeps it structural shape, but we think it would look equally good in something more slinky like a tencel twill.
For the ribbing neckline, Merchant & Mills used plain rib that stretches by half again (i.e. 4"[10 cm] piece stretches to 6" [15 cm]).
For the lining, they recommend using their barrier lining if you are making the oilskin version. Other lining options: brushed cotton, cotton poplin, or a medium weight slip lining in viscose or acetate.
You will also need:
Matching thread
6 x approximately ¾" (17-22 mm) buttons
3 ½ yds (3.2 m) of drawstring cord
